Total sewer system catchment area of the city of Zaprešić is app. 400 ha. The population is 15.800 inhabitants. The City functioning highly depends on the welfare of the sewer system. Unsatisfying performing effects of the existing sewer can be seen in back-flows, floddings, bottlenecks, environment pollution, etc.. The effects of such bad performance are numerous, such as: low draining quality, with increasing risk of damage in urban area, bad health life conditions in some parts of the city, and increased financial investments (damages, investments, maintenance).
In 1994. Zaprešić Sewer System Optimisation - Phase I has been initiated, and it’s realisation trusted to PRONING DHI d.o.o.. The Project was completed in 1996. Methodology used within the Project was matched with the newest EU standards. The Project was based on the MOUSE concept (Danish Hydraulic Institute).
Phase I activities:
1. Data acquisition
2. Hydrological flow data analyses
3. Hydraulic sewer flow analyses (mathematical model)
4. Short-term monitoring
5. Mathematical model verification
6. Boundary conditions
7. Statistical analyses of the existing system
8. Recommendations for the sewer system master plan
9. Technology transfer and training
